I see trees of green, red roses too

I see them bloom for me and you

And I think to myself . . . SCREECH . . .

And I think to myself . . . I’m thinking . . . I’m thinking . . . what the heck are the numbers on that screen ‘cause I don’t see nothing!! A few more tries and I request a new machine because this equipment at the DMV is obviously faulty. One minute later with a new machine (you have to be assertive), I’m desperately calling out all the even, then the odd, then just random numbers from 1 to 10.

Whadya’ mean "read the numbers in the middle section"? What middle section?? The guessing game ended when I was handed a form and told to visit an eye doctor before I came back.

I did the walk of shame out of the waiting room with all eyes on me. At least I think they were, but I dunno’, because (sarcastically) I HAVE A VISION PROBLEM! I sat in my car thinking. Just like that, I had turned into Mr. Magoo and here I was driving all over the place, CROSS COUNTRY, without a care in the world! Forget embarrassed. I was just plain confused!

But as I sat there, I had to admit that it was my FOGO (Fear of Getting Older) to blame again! After all, reading glasses signal to the world that your vision is declining and that you are definitely getting . . . well . . . older. The way I had it figured out, I was going to fool everyone with my mono-vision contact lens prescription - forever!

Now that reality is staring me in the face (because reality really can see) I may need to put my vanity aside, face facts, and find a different DMV!

But . . . my experience was also a reminder to get my eyes and everything else checked regularly so I can give more than lip service to living my best life! I hope you feel me on that, because as you get older, it’s those little unchecked things that lead to the big things that sometimes can’t be fixed!

Oh, by the way . . . I went home and exchanged my contact lens for eyeglasses (sigh) and aced the test!
