I Didn’t See THAT Coming!!

I promised to share my journey to a healthy and fun lifestyle . . . and things have officially started off with a bang! Things I’ve Googled in the last week after a recent and unexpected stay in the hospital are:

  1. Kidney stones (Pain. Worse. Than. Childbirth.)

  2. Video on “How to take a BIG pill without retching”

  3. MRSA

  4. What is the risk of infection if the person cleaning my hospital room is not wearing a mask and has Covid-19?

  5. Medical Malpractice (see #3 and #4 above)

Let me tell you, if you EVER hear a man say he’s had kidney stones, he actually DOES know what it’s like to deliver a baby! Except the anatomy is . . . well . . . different . . . and I didn’t Google that part . . . but if I was a man, let’s just say I’d just bang my head on the side of the bed until I passed out!

Aside from that, I must say that (my) timing is everything, and a hospital was the last place I wanted to be at the worst possible time in recent history. I am grateful and thankful for the service of all healthcare workers, particularly those serving COVID-19 patients. Fortunately, I was discharged after a few days but it has taken me forever (longer than a day) to get back to normal.  Looking back, I realized that I got so busy with “stuff” over the last few weeks - or months - that I neglected a few things. Namely, “me”. And although kidney stones form over time, I recall that some days, I wasn’t drinking any water at all!

You know, you can live more than 3 weeks without food (think Mahatma Ghandi) and at the end of it, you will have lost a lot of weight, and you will probably be a little HANGRY. However . . . at least 60% of your body is made up of water, and if you go more than 3 – 4 days without it, your body starts to suffer from a myriad of issues.

So . . . I’m drinking a LOT more water and eliminating or limiting M&M’s, spinach and nuts and nut butters because they are among the foods that contribute to the formation of calcium oxalate kidney stones.  🤓 BTW, if you happen to love French fries (sigh) and potato chips, you might want to check your intake on those delectable goodies!

Well, that’s enough “sharing” for now!

Me: Raises glass . . . Cheers!
