My Simple 3-Step Plan to (Get Started) Exercising!
You’ve heard of the expression “No pain – no gain”? Truer words have NEVER been spoken when it comes to working out after being “inactive”. And D%#n! Why does yoga hurt? And . . . when does the “euphoria” that comes from working out kick in so I can start feeling all energized and proud of myself? Cause right now? I’m not even close to getting there, yet I have inexplicably decided to go public and share my journey with everyone.
So, here’s the plan:
Start the day with prayer and do some much-needed stretching with a calm exercise (from the Calm app, actually). I’m a morning person, but I like to gradually ease into my day, and frankly, I don’t see any need to start hopping all over the place before dawn.
Next step, yoga. Not as easy as it looks! I tried my cousin Nancy’s class on Zoom a couple of weeks ago. She has sculpted her body to perfection and I thought . . . that could be me! Ha! This Chica is advanced and I eventually had to turn the video off because first of all, only the top of my head could be seen popping up here and there, and when they were getting up from a position. . . I was just getting down into the position and it just didn’t work.
However, I am undeterred and I’ve been checking out a few beginner’s yoga classes on YouTube, so I’ll keep you posted on that.
Hmmm . . . I just don’t think we’re doing the same thing, ‘cause I’M resting!
Final part of the plan: Cardio. My recent annual checkup revealed that I’ve got to get moving – now. My doctor has given me three months to get my cholesterol numbers down or else . . . STATINS! Been there and don’t want to do that again, so I’m going to double down, get moving, and get my heart rate up for at least 20 – 30 minutes every day. Or every other day. Just being real.
So that’s the plan, along with drinking more water and continuing to improve my diet. Oh! A friend just gifted me a mountain bike so I’m going to try that as soon as I get my elbow and knee pads, and a mouth guard to go along with my helmet. Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?! 😁
